About Corey
I first glimpsed my future in woodworking while attending Drummond High School. My shop teacher recognized in me what he considered to be a gift for working with wood and consequently allowed me a great deal of latitude on projects that he felt would challenge and stimulate my budding talent. Following high school, I spent a couple of years in Italy and subsequently attended Brigham Young University as a Mechanical Engineering major. In order to defray the costs of my education I secured work with Clever Craft Cabinets building boxes for custom cabinet systems. I absorbed the techniques and skills associated with custom cabinetry like a sponge, and I was soon promoted to production manager. I utilized this opportunity to enhance my instincts, artistry and passion for bringing wood to life. It soon became apparent that I would never love engineering like I loved woodworking.
In my junior year I decided to leave school and return to Montana with a co-worker from Cleaver Craft to open Always Custom Cabinets in Missoula. After a couple of years my partner and I dissolved the partnership and I accepted the position of operations manager at Intermountain Wood Products. This move would prove to be of great benefit to me and my future customers as it added another dimension to my understanding of the depth, variety and essence of materials available from all over the world. I also gained insights into how materials are dried, cut, graded and milled.
Although I enjoyed my work at Intermountain I felt a need creatively to once again work with wood. In 2000 I opened Bryant’s Woodworks. A short while later my brother suggested I call my business “Geppetto’s” after the Italian wood worker that carved Pinocchio, the wooden puppet who later became a real boy. The name Geppetto’s embodies the spirit of bringing wood to life; this is an essential element in helping you to create the kind of space in which you want to live or work. During the process of identifying your needs and preferences, I will strive to develop a functional and beautiful environment that will convey something about who you are.“
